THE STORY THUS FAR
The city-state of Midgar has stood as a beacon of technology and advancement for decades. She is a shining example of what is possible with ambition and the power of mako. At the center of Midgar is the Shinra Electric Power Company, which serves as the government, army, power plant, and bank of Midgar.
It is thanks to Shinra that Midgar has stood proudly for so long, despite repeated attacks from Junon to the south. However, with the sudden passing of the former President and the subsequent inheritance of the company by the president's son, Rufus, the goals of Shinra now shift from simply maintaining borders to conquest and expansion. No longer will Midgar cower behind her walls. She will strike at the hearts of her enemies. As part of this initiative, President Rufus Shinra has ordered the recruitment of new Turks.CHAPTER 1: THE THREAT TO THE SOUTH
Midgar's biggest threat remains Junon, the port to the south that is led by a man named Lazard Deusericus. No one is entirely sure why he has such a burning hatred for Midgar, but the fact remains that he is hell-bent on destroying her. Junon excels at naval warfare, and thus intermittently launches attacks from beyond Midgar's eastern shores. Luckily, the Sister Ray cannon mounted on Shinra Tower has been enough to fend off such assaults for the time being. However, with each passing day, Junon grows stronger and Lazard grows more cunning.
Junon must be neutralized before Midgar can be safe, but that is a long journey and far outside of Shinra's influence. Other resources need to be obtained before such an endeavor can be undertaken, so smaller territories must be secured first.ACT 1: THE KALM BEFORE THE STORM
The Territory of Kalm is a perfect place to start. As a small, riverside fort located on rolling plains, Kalm shouldn't be a difficult location to seize. Their ground forces are negligible and air support is non-existent. The Council of Kalm may even simply choose to surrender, if given the right incentive.
Regardless, Kalm's territory holds access to ores and materials that Midgar currently does not possess. With new resources on hand, better equipment can be developed for Midgar's fighting forces and new materia might be discovered.ACT 1, SIDE-MISSION 1: DISTRESS SIGNAL
March 8th, εγλ 0005: After receiving a distress signal from Palmer's downed helicopter on the coast north of Midgar, Reno and Dragoon set out with a group of soldiers to investigate the wreckage. It was determined that, based on the damage done to the helicopter, that the crash likely wasn't an accident.
Palmer was located inside the wreckage, still clinging to life, but unconscious. A shard of the windshield protrudes from his chest. On orders from Tseng, Dragoon finishes Palmer off by pushing the shard into his heart. His death is reported as an accidental result of the crash. Fragments of metal distinctly not from the Shinra helicopter were discovered and returned to home base, along with the black box. Junon's involvement is proven, based on analysis of the clues.Palmer's death results in the dissolution of the Space Program, with the funds redirected to other projects.
